Love Your Body: How Touch Heals the Nervous System, Reduces Stress & Awakens Intuition
April 27, 2026What is Intuition?
Intuition is your natural ability to receive, understand, and know information instantly—without conscious reasoning or explanation. You don’t think intuition—you sense it, receive it, and know it.
Often called gut feelings, inner knowing, or psychic awareness, your physical and energy body bypasses the need for step-by-step analysis, prior knowledge, or experience.
Instead of analyzing step-by-step, intuition spontaneously:
- Bypasses conscious thinking
- Moves faster than logical reasoning
- Creates a whole-body understanding
- Draws on past experiences, unconscious memory, and subtle awareness beyond conscious thought
- Begins as a feeling, then becomes knowing
You don’t figure intuition out—you receive it—from your body, Divine guidance, unconscious memories, reasoning, and ancestral know how. Learned knowledge also feeds what Psychology Today calls the “gut feeling.” How did you just know how to kiss or make love for the first time? Those are built-in instincts.
This blog explains how intuition works, why people stop trusting their intuition, and ways to reestablish trust.
You are Born with Intuition
Think of the last time you entered a party or a room with a lot of people in it. You knew immediately whether the place felt safe or uncomfortable. You tuned into your energy field that flows through your body to sense others’ energy. You just knew whether to stay and relax or be guarded.
A joint MIT and Harvard study says, “Babies exhibit intuitive knowing to understand people’s actions in a sophisticated, measurable way.” Before language and logic develop, babies rely entirely on their intuition and energetic awareness to navigate the world. Their intuitive gifts are pure, unfiltered, and highly attuned to the energy around them.
Children and pets “see” or sense (negative) energy. Many clients tell me, “I pay attention to who my children like and don’t like.”
You sense information that does not appear visible or physical, including energy, emotions, and consciousness.
Are You Intuitive? Signs to Look For
Many clients talk about feeling pushed or compelled to make changes in their life, whether it be reconsider your relationships or your work, even though you enjoy your work?
Do you feel a drive for personal or spiritual growth? Feel drawn to study Reiki, Energy Healing, or develop your intuition? Are you going through an identity shift and asking, “What is my purpose and how can I do things that make a bigger difference?”
Notice when your soul and Divine guidance nudges you.
Do you experience:
- A sudden knowing
- Aware of people’s feelings or thoughts
- Strong feeling of truth (or misalignment)
- Déjà vu or knowing what will happen next
- Able to connect with another energy or consciousness without talking
- Sense your Divine Guides
Why Developing Your Intuition Improves Your Life
When you understand how intuition works, and begin to make sense of the cues and symbols you receive, and develop your intuitive skills, you can learn to reliably translate gut hunches and into a reliable insights trust your inner awareness.
Building intuition enhances your ability to make better decisions faster to improve relationships, your health, and even finances. You begin to experience a calmer, clearer, and more fulfilling life.
Intuition isn’t just a “feeling.” It’s a biological process involving the brain, body, and nervous system working together.
Activating your intuition helps you:
-
Trust your gut
Think of intuition as a feeling sense—natural in-born instincts. As you strengthen intuition, you stop ignoring red flags, stop chasing validation, and choose people and situations that aligns with your values and beliefs. You begin to make sense of the cues and symbols you receive.
-
Improve mental and physical health
Strengthening your intuition helps regulate your nervous system, reducing anxiety, fear, and stress responses.
As your intuition becomes clearer, your emotions, mental clarity, and mood begin to work together more naturally. You make decisions faster and move forward with greater ease, allowing your body to spend more time in a relaxed, healing state. As stress decreases, your physical systems function more efficiently.
You also become aware of stress triggers and emotional shifts earlier, giving you the ability to self-regulate and take supportive action sooner. Instead of reacting, you respond with clarity and calm.
Your body returns to balance more quickly. Developing intuition supports activation of the vagus nerve, which plays a key role in calming the body and regulating the stress response. As you begin to trust your thoughts and feelings, anxiety and overthinking start to quiet—leaving you with more stable, positive mental and physical energy.
-
Read people and situations clearly
When you clear the static of fear and begin to trust yourself, you instantly become aware of the tone, body language to quickly and more easily comprehend the meaning behind people’s words and actions. You are better able to make conscious responses instead of reacting to situations.
-
Improve relationships
Many relationship struggles come from not trusting your own inner voice. Because you trust yourself and inner feelings, you become clearer, calmer, and know what feels right and how to respond honestly.
With clearer awareness of your feelings and beliefs, notice how your Throat Chakra opens to free you to speak your truth without suppressing or upsetting emotions. This creates healthier, more balanced relationships.
-
Make better, faster decisions (with less stress)
Your brain and energy system is constantly storing past experiences and your emotional reactions that create patterned responses. When a new situation arises, your brain compares it instantly to what it already knows. The brain compares situations with the past in milliseconds.
Strengthening your intuition helps you break old patterns and stay present in the moment. You make intuitive decisions based on “What feels right to me?”
What Interferes with Intuition
“Ever since I have started seeing Wendy I have felt more peace in my life. I have learned many tools to help me with deal with everyday stressors. I feel so much more spiritual and feel my intuition is getting stronger and can’t wait to continue working with Wendy to see what I can accomplish.” — Michelle A
Clear intuition doesn’t disappear—it gets covered up with mental noise. Fear, anxiety, rumination, replaying conversations, and second-guessing yourself. Listening to others instead of your inner knowing. Trying to “figure it out” from fear instead of feeling.
When the mind is loud, it drowns out the quieter, steady signal of intuition. Stress amplifies this. When your nervous system is in fight-or-flight, your body scans for danger, not truth, so everything can feel urgent, confusing, or uncertain. Past experiences also play a role. Old patterns, emotional wounds, or the habit of people-pleasing can override your inner knowing, making you doubt yourself or look outside for validation instead of trusting what you sense.
Another layer of interference comes from emotional buildup and external energy. When feelings like anxiety, resentment, or exhaustion aren’t processed, they cloud perception—what you feel may be emotion, not intuition. Constant input from others (opinions, expectations, social media, even the emotional tone of people around you) can pull you out of your own center. Over time, this disconnect makes it harder to recognize your true inner voice. The good news is that intuition returns quickly when you create space: slow down, calm the body, and reconnect inward. When the noise settles, your intuition becomes clear again—steady, simple, and surprisingly direct.
Intuition vs. Anxiety
Many people wonder, “Is this my intuition or my anxiety?” The difference is often how it feels in your body. Intuition feels calm, clear, and direct—it’s a quiet knowing that doesn’t need to argue or repeat itself. Anxiety feels urgent, repetitive, and fear-based, often creating loops of “what if” thinking and pressure to act quickly.
Intuition brings a sense of steadiness, even when it’s guiding you to make a change. Anxiety, on the other hand, feels tense and overwhelming, pulling your attention in multiple directions. Learning to recognize this difference helps you trust your inner guidance and make decisions with greater clarity and confidence.
For empaths, this can feel even more confusing—because you may be sensing not only your own emotions, but the energy of others as well.
Are You an Empath? Why You May Feel Overwhelmed
Many intuitive people—especially empaths—feel overwhelmed because they naturally pick up on the emotions and energy of others. Without understanding what you’re picking up, this can feel like anxiety. In reality, it’s often unfiltered intuitive awareness.
You may notice:
- feeling others’ emotions as your own
- becoming drained in crowds or intense environments
- sensing discomfort or “heaviness” without knowing why
As you learn to understand your intuition, you begin to recognize what belongs to you, stay grounded, and feel deeply—without becoming overwhelmed.

How to Trust Your Inner Guidance
Slow down and create space to hear your inner voice. Intuitive guidance often comes quietly—through conversations, subtle signs, repeating patterns, or a simple inner knowing that feels clear and steady.
Take time to meditate, journal, or sit in silence. As your mind settles, your awareness naturally shifts inward, making it easier to recognize your own wisdom and truth.
Ask for guidance and trust what you receive. Divine Guidance and intuitive insight often arrives in simple, direct ways—through a feeling, a thought, or a sense of clarity. The more you listen, the easier it becomes to recognize what is truly guiding you.
Clear emotional and mental clutter to strengthen your intuition. When fear, stress, or overwhelm quiets, your intuition becomes easier to hear. Reiki and Energy Healing, grounding, and mindful awareness help you release what no longer serves you and reconnect with your inner guidance more clearly.
