Sleep experts recommend that you:

Establish healthy sleep habits. Go to bed and get up at the same time each day. Create a ritual for winding down where you dim lights and stay away from all blue screens for at least an hour before bed.

Limit your bed to sleep and sex. Avoid thinking—often ruminating, reading, and blue light screens in bed.

Add lettuce, calcium-rich, tryptophan-rich (seeds, nuts, soybeans, turkey, cheese) and magnesium-rich (leafy greens, fruit, nuts & seeds, beans) foods to your diet, especially the evening meal. Eat a light protein snack before bed.

Avoid heavy, fried, spicy foods, citrus, and carbonated drinks in the evening.

Avoid or limit drugs, caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol.

Moderate your intake of carbohydrates and sugars that tend to cause ups and downs in metabolism.

Exercise, yoga, qigong, and/or meditate. Even as much as 10 minutes of one of these a day can help you sleep better.

Make your bedroom a comfortable and safe place to sleep. Make sure your bedroom is quiet, dark, relaxing, and at a comfortable temperature. My new mattress helps both of us sleep much better.
