Meditation tips: be your healer

The American Psychological Association says, “meditation reduces stress and changes our brain and biology in positive ways, improving mental and physical health.” Meditation calms you these ways:
- Calms the part of the brain that ruminates and creates anxiety
- Stimulates activity in the insula, the brain center responsible for self awareness for spiritual growth
- Decreases anxiety and enhances greater body and emotional awareness, according to Mayo Clinic and WebMD
- Helps you stay into the present moment

Meditation gives you an energy boost as you move stagnant mental energy. Levels of dopamine (the neurotransmitter of pleasure), serotonin (the neurotransmitter of happiness), and GABA (the neurotransmitter of calmness) all rise when you meditate regularly.

Meditation steps to get your energy moving
- Relax and breathe deeply.
- Clear your energy field. Consciously let go of negative thoughts and emotions. Consider visualizing releasing all the negativity of your life dropping into the Earth. One that works well for me is to visualize pure light coming through the top of your head and entering every part of your body and auric field. See the light grounding you deep into the Earth so you become a channel of pure light. Expand the channel further and further.
- Substitute happy thoughts and emotions. Envision your favorite place. Take it in with each of your senses. What do you see? What do you hear? How does it smell? How does it make you feel?
- When the mind wanders, simply notice what you were thinking about or what was distracting you whether thoughts, feelings, or sensations. Mind wandering happens to EVERYONE so avoid stressing about it. Watch the thought and the next one like a 3rd party observer. Gently bring your attention back to the sensation or breath of your initial focus. When you relax and don’t give distractions attention, they eventually calm down of their own accord. That act of noticing and coming back is meditation!
Boost intuition and Reiki energy healing
All of us feel stuck sometimes. Although we use the energy healing tools we teach, Rodrigo and I get regular healings because it’s impossible to be objective about yourself. I liken it to taking care of your car. It’s still best to get regular tune ups for your car and energy field.
