            We have between “60,000 to 80,000” thoughts per day or about 50 per minute. Thoughts are the energy that create your emotions and life experiences.

            Why do I keep thinking negatively?

            WebMD says that “Negative emotions like fear and sadness trigger increased activity in a part of the brain linked to memories. These emotionally charged memories are preserved in greater detail than happy or more neutral memories.”

            Have you ever heard anyone complain that I can’t stop thinking good thoughts? Remembering the bad times more strongly and in greater detail than good times has been hard-wired into your DNA because evolved from fearful cavemen who survived because they paid attention to potentially life-threatening. That’s why we tend to remember negative comments more than positive ones. Research says you learn more from the negative outcomes. That means we remember childhood traumas that deeply embed humiliation that evolves to shame, unworthiness, and avoidance.

            Why do I repeat the same mistakes?

            About 10% of thoughts are conscious. Dr. Fred Luskin of Stanford University says that those 90% of your unconscious thoughts are repetitive, so we habitually think the same thoughts and then have the same feelings. We re-act to the world. It’s no wonder that many of us go through life blindly repeating the same patterns—and mistakes.

            When you have the same thoughts over and over, these thoughts congeal into a thought form. Like a snowball that is created one snowflake at a time, your thoughts congeal into a negative thought form that forms blocks—they eventually become negative beliefs that unconsciously rule your life. First, you feel tight muscles. Then pain occurs. Further ignored, dis-ease will set in often accompanied with anxiety and/or stress.

            Through tears, a client said last night, “I laid in bed all day on Sunday. I got up on Monday morning and decided to be cheerful. My day went well. I changed my thoughts. I’ve surrendered. I don’t understand why it’s not working.” Changing your thoughts can help, but SIMPLY CHANGING YOUR THOUGHTS doesn’t address underlying unconscious issues.

            Quiet the mind chatter: Move your energy

            Your beliefs and trauma live in your cells. Energy Healing vacuums the hurt and pain out of the cells. You get relief mentally, emotionally, and physically. Thoughts will slow down, and you will begin to reconnect with the now. The authors of Rewire Your Anxious Brain tell us to “breathe…consciously relax our body, and play music” to calm ourselves. If you are stressed, exercise burns off excess stress chemicals. To change thoughts immediately, the book recommends gently changing to kinder thoughts and do something fun.

            After a person’s energy gets moving again, I recommend Cognitive Behavior Therapy elements to help people keep their energy moving.

            • Notice and acknowledge your feelings and thoughts without judgment

            • Meditate to discover the triggers and the underlying conflicting feelings

            • Where do you feel tightness in your body? Move!

            • Move your energy—exercise, sing, and meditate

            • Express gratitude in a journal or aloud to integrate change

            Move your energy every day to feel stronger mentally, emotionally, and physically.
