Reiki Healing vs. Intuitive Energy Healing
July 20, 2024Meditation is a form of energy healing for your body, mind, and soul. Prayer is talking to the Divine. Meditation is listening. Your inner healer quiets your mind to hear your Guides and Angels. You open your heart to receive guidance and the gifts the Universe has for you. Meditation is all-important in Reiki classes because meditation brings spiritual awakening and spiritual healing.
The Mayo Clinic says meditation can wipe away your day’s stress, bringing with it inner peace and better health. “Meditation promotes overall physical, emotional and mental health,” according to the National Institutes of Health.
Change your expectations of meditation
- Your only goal is to quiet and rest the mind. EVERYONE has challenges calming their mind.
- EXPECT to have intrusive thoughts at least every 5-10 seconds. “Meditation is very much like training a puppy.” When training a puppy, you gently and patiently teach a puppy what you want them to do. Be that kind and patient with your mind.
- Meditation IS NOT continuously holding a quiet meditation state. Instead, it’s a moment-by-moment awareness of bringing your attention to the right here, right now.
- FIND YOUR WAY. With dozens of ways to meditate, one is right for you. When I started meditating, I could only calm my mind when running. I loved the runner’s high that filled me with endorphins and quieted my mind.
Which meditation type fits your inner healer?
Experiment with various meditation techniques such as mindfulness, loving-kindness (metta), transcendental meditation, or guided visualizations to find what resonates with you.
“My mind was WAY too busy to meditate at first. When I started meditating, I could only calm my mind when running. I loved the runner’s high that filled me with endorphins and quieted my mind. Running, lifting weights, and yoga gave me a place to focus.”
- Moving meditation. Use your run, tai chi, yoga, qigong, or any form of exercise to meditate.
- Guided visualization meditation is super popular, on YouTube and apps such as Headspace, Calm, or Healthy Minds Program. Rodrigo and I give healing meditations during your Reiki Healing, Intuitive Energy Healing, and Energy Clearing. A voice draws your imagination into a quiet meditation. Experiment with different people to find who resonates best with you.
- Sound Healing meditation vibrates your cells and energy field to restore balance. Rodrigo and I use crystal sound bowls and tuning forks to retune your body into free-flowing energy.
- In Mantra meditation, choose a phrase or word that inspires you, continuously repeating it with focus. Choose something calming such as peace or love. “Om” or “God” are considered the most sacred syllables.
- Mindfulness meditation is being aware of what you is going on within, your thoughts and feelings — without judgment AND being aware of what is happening around you. Breathe deeply and exhale slowly. Notice your thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment calmly, accepting them through a gentle, nurturing lens.
- Progressive Relaxation meditation is where you tense and relax muscles in your body to release tension while deep breathing. Tighten the muscles of your face and jaws for 3 seconds and relax. Tighten your neck and shoulders, then relax them. Next tighten your upper back, then mid-back, then lower back. Hold for 3 seconds and relax. Move progressively through the front of your torso, hips, legs, and feet.
- Reiki’s Gassho Meditation intensifies Reiki healing energy in the Reiki Practitioner or Reiki Master’s hands and supports spiritual healing. This foundational Reiki meditation opens and connects the heart chakra to your hands. Whether giving Reiki or not, you can use the Gassho meditation to center yourself, calm the mind, and tap into the Universal Life Force energy that’s at the heart of Reiki’s healing energy. Easy directions here.
Getting started with meditation
Breathing deeply bridges the gap between your body and mind. Notice how your belly rises and falls as you take breaths in and out. Every time you feel stressed, simply take three slow and controlled deep belly breaths. It’s a simple act, but this interrupts the fight-or-flight response and puts it on pause.
Over time, belly breathing can buffer your resistance to your fight-or-flight response, so you are not as sensitive to stress triggers. Deep breathing brings in Divine light and love as well as health to your body. You exhale toxins, stress, negativity—all you do not need. The perfect breath is 5.5 seconds. Follow your breath to your belly. Then slowly exhale through your nose.
Having a bad day? Set an hourly timer on your watch and breathe deeply for 30-60 seconds. You will get much- needed oxygen to your body and brain while relaxing your mind.
Same spot. Meditate in the same spot every day that is comfortable, quiet, and free from distractions. This builds the spiritual energy into your meditation. Before long, you may notice a vortex of love and light in your special spot. This helps condition your mind to enter a meditative state more quickly.
Body posture. Sit up straight and relax your body. Most meditation professionals recommend a straight spine, sit up straight with your feet on the floor, sit cross-legged, or lay down. Sitting up straight gives your organs space. The spine acts like an antenna, attracting consciousness and energy that can stimulate your energy field. Notice how it brings deeper focus as well as helps you feel more alert and clear-headed. Keeping your spine straight may help you activate and control these chakras more effectively.
Consciously relax tight muscles and joints before your begin. Let your arms fall to your sides naturally. Your mind will relax as your body is relaxes.
Advanced meditation tips for mind chatter
Smile at the mind chatter. Your body will automatically release. Smiling naturally reduces stress-induced hormones in the bloodstream and increases positive emotions. It can also help lower blood pressure and heart rate, which are indicators of the body’s stress response. Notice any tightness in your body. where you
Watch your thoughts and emotions as if they are clouds floating by you without judging them. You are SO much bigger than your thoughts, so MUCH bigger than your emotions.
Notice your body. Notice your thoughts. What are you feeling? Avoid engaging with your thoughts or feelings. Just watch them as an observer. Interesting. Let the next thought come. Watch it. Notice that you are not those thoughts.
Take your gaze up 30 degrees to the center of your forehead. Notice how the mind chatter quiets.
Best time to meditate
Start and end your day with meditation. Harness the quieter, alpha brain wave state that goes on for 5-15 minutes as you wake up. This helps you influence your conscious mind throughout the day.
You can influence your unconscious self if you meditate just before sleep.
